Price Target Research is an independent equity research firm that has provided equity research, stock ratings and measures of relative company performance since 2004. Customers are individual and institutional investors, corporations and consulting firms and there are hundreds of repeat monthly readers.
Pricetargetresearch.com is our web site that provides access to PTR research, ratings, scores and comparative performance using advanced natural language models and queries to provide expert level insight -- evidence-based, real-time, with attributes.
PTR commands extremely broad coverage, tracking over 5,500 North American-traded companies of all capitalizations. Coverage is across all industries and market sectors. Additionally, Equity Intelligence Monitors provides actionable intelligence and insight into overall market trends, prospects for market sectors and industries and identification of new leaders and laggards.
Our analytical framework connects company operating performance directly to valuation consequences. Key performance metrics include: Growth, Profitability and Risk.
The framework is rules-based and repeatable — eliminating subjective bias. We follow a disciplined valuation approach based on popular valuation metric – CFROI (Cash Flow Return on Investment). Valuation inputs are driven by actual market expectations for growth in capital, return on capital and cost of capital.
A key to our research is the PTR Value Trend Rating which is the overall measure of a stock's attractiveness relative to a universe of all companies traded on North American exchanges. The Value Trend Rating combines the Appreciation Score that measures a stock's appreciation potential relative to the Universe and the Power Rating that measures its current "timeliness".
The Value Trend Rating identifies groups of companies at stages when individual company performance is reflecting significant underlying change. Stocks with high Value Trend Ratings are expected to outperform the general market while stocks with low Value Trend Ratings are expected to underperform.
Price Target Research research and ratings can support virtually any strategy tuned to a wide range of investor objectives. PTR WatchList "style" depends on three aspects of investor objectives: 1) income orientation; 2) risk tolerance; and 3) marketability/liquidity preferences.
PTR's Select Strategy Watch Lists are designed to be low turnover. At the beginning of each calendar year, candidates for a Watch List are identified according to the specific criteria for the List described above. After this qualification step, up to 50 stocks are selected based on their high PTR Value Trend ratings. In some instances, to avoid abnormally high or low industry weights, selections may reflect the highest Value Trend ratings within industries rather than the absolute highest Value Trend ratings.
Price Target Research regularly produces valuation targets derived using our cash flow forecasts and the powerful CFROI framework. The Price Target reflects the fundamental valuation concepts of Modigliani and Miller and consists of two components. The first measures the value of the company's existing assets based on current operating cash flow. The second accounts for the company's growth opportunities.
The Price Target is derived from multi-year cash flow forecasts and measures its warranted market value. Appreciation Potential is the indicated change in market value from the current price to the Price Target. The Appreciation Score measures the degree to which a stock's appreciation potential is attractive relative to a universe of 5,500+ companies. (0=the lowest; 100= highest.) Unlike many approaches, PTR's valuation framework is applicable to all companies and industries. No special cases.
Price Target Research content is derived from proprietary curated ratings, scores, ranks and text libraries drawn from PTR's research publications. This intelligent content is based on multi-decade research by the principals of PTR and is not available on any other platform – public or private. PTR's Value Trend Rating has a multi-decade record of identifying stock market winners and losers.
